Our gardens need to work harder for us all. Covid has meant all of us are spending a lot more time in our homes and gardens, working, exercising and relaxing. Looking forward, our working lives will change and more of us will undertake some of our work from our homes. For some, utilising our garden space to add a garden room to work from is the way forward, or upgrading an existing area to more of an outdoor sitting room to relax in with the mental and physical rewards nature brings. Garden rooms come in a wide range of styles from traditional to contemporary, small to large, are easier, quicker and cheaper than many home extensions. Whatever style you choose, it needs to work with the look of your property and sit well within your garden.
Garden Room with Potager Garden. Design by www.polleygardendesign.com If you are choosing one for leisure activities you may want to tuck it away, surround it or screen it with planting, or ensure a different view of your garden. This will help to give you a mental break from your inside space. You can also connect it to a new space within your garden as in the image above, or make the most of any lovely views out of your garden. Garden Room with surrounding Deck area. If your outside space is for work, a hard landscaped pathway between your two spaces will allow easy access in all weathers and think about adding a sitting area outside to enjoy a coffee break, or a meeting in good weather. Outside Comfort. Your outside space is also likely to be multifunctional for you and members of your family over time, from yoga studio, artist space, man cave, teenage escape, gym, guest accommodation – the list is endless, so thinking about room sizes and facilities is vital. Fabrics from a range at www.uv-pro.com If your garden is too small for a garden room, you could focus on enhancing your existing outside space with the addition of a fire pit or gas fire, lanterns, candles, rugs and throws. Outdoor cooking with a fire pit, wood fired ovens, BBQ’s and outdoor kitchens is fun, and outdoor lighting can create a perfect backdrop for enjoying your outside space at night and throughout the year. High performance fabrics have been developed and are now available from a variety of suppliers and offer a wide range of colours, patterns and textures, plus some are made from recycled materials for our outside spaces. Keeping us cool in warm summers and cosy in cooler months, allowing us to extend the time we can happily spend outside. Make the most of your Outside in your garden.
